A community meal brought Rock Island neighbors together for an early Thanksgiving meal.
Organizers say the 24th Annual Thanksgiving Holiday Dinner at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center took months to prepare.
Reverend Dwight Ford, executive director of the King Center said the meal was planned to enhance fellowship and allow people to enjoy good food.
“It gives us a chance to have a very nutritious meal,” Ford said. “It gives us a chance to learn about one another and also learn from one another; and there’s nothing like great fellowship.”
Ford said there were 244 volunteers helping with the meal. They cooked the food, served people at the event, drove meals to people who cannot leave their homes, and more.
The dinner has been hosted since the center first opened in 1975.
