Thieves strike while victims attend church

Moline Police say numerous thefts have occurred at churches, even while people are attending services.

Officials say numerous thefts have occurred at churches, even while people are attending services.

On Friday, November 22, 2013 the Moline Police Department said in recent weeks they have responded to many thefts reported at churches in Moline.

“Unlocked houses of worship are prime targets for individuals who enter the church then make their way to unoccupied classrooms or offices looking for items to steal,” said a spokesperson from the Moline Police Department.

Officials said the thefts have occurred even when churchgoers are in attendance and left purses in what they believed were secure areas.

The department said they want to make residents aware that these thefts are a growing problem. Anyone who has information regarding the thefts can call Crime Stoppers of the Quad Cities at 309-762-9500. Callers will be anonymous and may receive a cash award if information leads to an arrest.
