Nobody knows kids like other kids, so students from Ridgewood Elementary school spent some time shopping for Toys for Tots.

On Friday, November 22, 2013 students spent the morning at Walmart in Moline grabbing anything that they thought a kid their age might enjoy.

“We don’t know any better as adults,” said Principal Joey Diilulio. “The one way to pick out a toy is have kids that age pick them out.”

On a budget of $500 the kids were able to fill three carts full of toys.

“Our student council raised much needed funds for kids who need help and we decided they wanted to use that money to come shopping for Toys for Tots,” said Diilulio.

For their support of Toys for Tots the students were presented with the Toys for Tots Commander’s Award.

“Just a small way of saying thank you for supporting Toys for Tots,” said Sgt. Mathew Starratt from the U.S. Marine Corps. “It’s really great to see them actually step up and do that on their own.”

Donations for Toys for Tots can be dropped off at WQAD's studeo through December 10. Click here for details.
