Former Davenport North coach faces new charges

A former Davenport North High School teacher coach faces additional charges after he was accused of having sexual contact with a student.

A former Davenport North High School teacher and coach faces additional charges after he was accused of having sexual contact with a student.

Daniel Schneiderman, 37, was charged in Scott County in August 2013 with telephone dissemination of obscene material to a minor, sexual exploitation by a school employee and third-degree sexual abuse.  An affidavit filed with the court said Schneiderman exchanged sexually explicit text messages with the victim and used his cell phone to send a picture of his genitalia to the victim’s cell phone.  The affidavit said Schneiderman made sexually explicit comments to the victim during school as well.  His alleged relationship with the victim began in 2011 when the girl was 14 years old.

Schneiderman was later released on $10,000 bond.  He resigned in September from his job as a special education teacher and head coach of the boys' varsity basketball team at Davenport North.

A new complaint was filed against Schneiderman November 22, 2013.  That affidavit said that, in addition to prior allegations against him, Schneiderman took the girl out of classes in an attempt to have sexual contact with her and that he had physical contact with the victim during school hours.

The new affidavit said Schneiderman had sexually explicit conversations with the victim in person and via text messages between August 2010 and June 2013, and that he threatened to kill her if she told anyone about those conversations.  Schneiderman is also accused of getting "angry with the victim when he didn't approve of things she was doing and even threatened to slit her (expletive) throat had she been a male and done the same thing," according to the affidavit.

In addition to previous charges filed in the case, Schneiderman was charged with sexual exploitation by a school employee, first-degree harassment and two counts of telephone dissemination of obscene material.

Jail records show Schneiderman spent 22 minutes in the Scott County Jail before posting and being released on $5,000 bond.
