Rock Island High School seniors got the opportunity to browse different college and career paths without even leaving the school.
Wednesday, November 20, 2013 was Rocky’s first ever career fair with about 45 businesses and colleges on site to help students create a path after graduation.
Assistant Principal Kristin Allen said the goal of the fair was to give all students access to information about different colleges and career-paths.
“We really wanted to include a lot of different career clusters to engage students who have different interests,” Allen said.
Among the colleges on site, Black Hawk College, Western Illinois University, Augustana College, and St. Ambrose were represented. On the business-side of the fair, Alcoa, Elliott Aviation, and the Rock Island Police and Fire Departments had representatives on site.
Two presentations were set up for students at the fair which included financial aid information, college planning, and how to get internships.
Allen said planning for the college and career fair had been in the works since spring and they do plan on having it again next year.
The fair was sponsored by a federal grant called Lights ON For Learning.
