Davenport man sentenced for bank robbery

A man who admitted to robbing the Family Credit Union in Davenport was sentenced to more than 12 years in prison.

A man who admitted to robbing the Family Credit Union in Davenport was sentenced to more than 12 years in prison.

The Family Credit Union at 1400 Rockingham Road was robbed Monday morning, October 22, 2012.  Police said a man implied he had a gun when he handed the teller a note demanding money.

The suspect from that robbery, Elbert Lee Karr Jr., was arrested after leading police on a pursuit that ended in Cedar County, Iowa.  During the pursuit, Karr was driving a semi tractor that had been reported stolen in Davenport.  Police said he had money from the robbery on him when he was arrested.

Workers at the credit union later identified Karr as the robbery suspect.

U.S. Attorney Nicholas Klinefeldt said Karr pleaded guilty to bank robbery.

Karr was sentenced Friday, November 15, 2013 to 151 months in prison.  Karr was also ordered to pay $2,920 in restitution plus $100 to the Crime Victims Fund.  When he is released from prison, Karr must also serve three years of supervised release.
