A leading grocery store chain is helping to ensure there is no shortage of a Thanksgiving staple at area food pantries.

Hy-Vee donated 1,000 turkeys to Churches United of the Quad Cities on Monday, November 18, 2013.  The roughly five tons of turkeys will be distributed to 25 food pantries throughout the area.

The donation is part of an effort by the chain to donated 10,000 turkeys in 10 cities over a 10 day period.  The frozen turkeys will be delivered in each of the eight Midwestern states that Hy-Vee operates, including Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois, Minnesota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Kansas and Missouri.
