Bulldogs win 5A State Championship

For the second year in a row, Bettendorf High School’s volleyball team is Iowa’s 5A State Champion.

For the second year in a row, Bettendorf High School's volleyball team is Iowa's 5A State Champion.

Bettendorf faced Ankeny Centennial in the semifinals Thursday, November 14, 2013 at U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.  The Bulldogs delivered a thriller in game five to take the best three out of five series.

The Bulldogs advanced to face Des Moines Dowling for the Class 5A state championship Friday, November 15, 2013.

Bettendorf came from behind in the first game to win 27-25.

Dowling took game two, 25-19.

The Bulldogs came back to win game three 25-13, and then took game four with a 25-20 win.

School officials said a Welcome Home ceremony was planned to honor the team, coaches and supporters.  The ceremony was set for 10 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2013 in the commons area at Bettendorf High School.
