The loss of a Rock Island school is bringing big profits to a Davenport charity.

Habitat Restore sells new and used building materials to support Habitat for Humanity.

They were able to salvage items from Rock Island’s former Audubon School before it gets torn down in coming weeks.  The vacant school building is being demolished, and the land it currently stands on is being sold.

As of Friday, November 15, 2013,  the organization has made an estimated $17,000 from selling those items.

“I’ve never seen anything fly off the shelf like this,” said Habitat ReStore Director Cindy Kuhn.

She estimates about 70 percent of items taken from Audubon School have already been sold, but says items like trim, blackboards and doors are still available.

The public is welcome to buy these items from Habitat ReStore at their Davenport location, 3629 Mississippi Avenue.
