Toys for Tots Registration Low So Far

Staff Sergent Matthew Starratt says the number of people seeking help through the Toys for Tots program, so far, is low.

Staff Sergent Matthew Starratt says the number of people seeking help through the Toys for Tots program, so far, is low.

Starratt says that two weeks into the program, Toys for Tots usually has about 1,500 people who have signed up.  As of the morning of November 13, they only had 1,000.

Staratt says the registration period started earlier this year than it has in the past.  That may be part of the reason why the numbers are down.

Just as a reminder, here are a few of the things that parents need to do if they want to register their child for a toy:

  1. Bring a Picture ID (Government Issued, Driver’s License, State ID Card or Matricula)
  2. Show something with the Proof of your Current Home Address (Light bill, phone bill, etc.)
  3. Give your Phone number to organizers (Number where you can be reached)
  4. Bring your Child’s birth certificate OR or medical card showing birthday or Acta De Nacinmiento)
  5. As a reminder, CHILDREN MUST BE 6 MONTHS – 12 YEARS OF AGE.  THE CHILD MUST BE AT LEAST 6 months old by December 15th or born by June 21st 2013 to receive toys.  NO EXCEPTIONS.
  6.  Foster Parents/Guardians must show proof of custody.

Parents can sign up at the old Rock Island County Market Grocery Store, 2252 24th Street in Rock Island.  The building is only open for Toys for Tots registration on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays until November 30th.
