Police used resources on the ground and in the air to search for a man who reportedly broke into a home in Eldridge, Iowa.

Police used resources on the ground and in the air to search for a man who reportedly broke into a home in Eldridge, Iowa.

The break-in was reported around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at a home in the 22900 block of 245th Street.  A person reportedly broke into the home and was chased out by the homeowners.

Initial reports indicated the suspect was caught taking Christmas gifts from the home.  Police confirmed items were taken from the home but they did not specify what was taken.

People from several law enforcement agencies and a Med Force helicopter joined to help search for the suspect.  Police on the ground went house-to-house and through nearby fields and woods searching for the man.

Initial reports from police indicated they captured a man they thought was the suspect just before 4:30 p.m.  They later said they did not have the suspect in custody.  After the suspect ran from the home on foot, police said they think he might have left in a vehicle.

There was no clear description of the alleged suspect or his possible getaway vehicle.

No injuries were immediately reported.
