Nearly 100 college bowling teams came from around the country for an annual tournament in the Quad Cities.

The 13th Annual Leatherneck Classic was held on Saturday and Sunday, November 9 and 10. Hundreds of college bowlers from 11 states competed. For collegiate women, the tournament is the fourth largest in the country and for men it’s the ninth largest.

Local bowlers from St. Ambrose University, Ashford University, Clarke University in Dubuque, and Western Illinois University participated. Some Big 10 schools were there also- the University of Illinois, University of Iowa, University of Minnesota, and University of Wisconsin.

“It’s grown over the years and just to have all the top teams come, you know this is about the midpoint of our season and so it’s a good gauge to see where you’re going to be come March when we start our postseason competition,” said Shawn Wochner, tournament director.

According to Wochner, Robert Morris University was the winner of the women’s varsity tournament and McKendree University was the winner of men’s varsity.
