Hundreds of people came together to support a friend and family member as she battles a field of medical problems.

On Saturday, November 9, 2013 friends and family gathered at the Knights of Columbus in Galesburg in support of a benefit for Lisa Makeever, who was a recipient of the Pay it Forward initiative in 2012. The roughly 6-hour event included live music as well as live and silent auctions in an effort to raise money for Lisa.

According to the benefit’s flyer, Lisa had a brain aneurysm while on vacation in June. After undergoing an initial surgery, she now faces additional procedures for more aneurysms. Lisa’s family is asking for support to help Lisa through this time when she faces “significant medical costs and is unable to work.”

In April of 2012, Lisa was a News 8 Pay it Forward recipient, who was nominated for her work at Lombard Junior High School where she worked as a secretary.

“She celebrates their victories, wipes away their tears,” said the nominator, Mary Keith. “She does everything to make them just feel like they’re #1.”

All the money raised from Saturday’s event will help Lisa and her family pay for medical expenses. An account has been set-up at First Mid-Illinois Bank and Trust.
