The much-anticipated football merger between the Western Big 6 and Mid-States 6 conferences is on hold once again, and it may never begin.

Rock Island High School Principal Tim Wernintin says Western Big 6 officials have voted against an all-sport merger with the Peoria-based Mid-States 6 conference.

As a result of that vote, the football-only merger is also on hold.

Peoria Schools will reportedly explore other options, and a decisionon their behalf is expected by or before November 15.
