Hundreds of Moline High School seniors were presented with certificates that indicate career readiness.
On Wednesday, November 6, 2013 463 MHS seniors were awarded a National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) that they earned based on their results of a standardized test. Awards were distributed at an assembly in the MHS Auditorium.
There are four levels of certificates students can receive- platinum, gold, silver and bronze. Eight students were awarded platinum certificates, meaning they have the basic foundation for 99-percent of identified jobs; 110 students received gold.
The students being recognized earned their certificates after performing at a certain level on the Prairie State Achievement Exam in April. Students had to score a three or better on all three WorkKeys assessments. They were tested on Applied Math, Reading for Information, and Locating Information.
Moline senior, Grace Carlson said the test was important and a good way to see if you’re on the right track.
“Students should take these tests seriously,” Carlson said. “They’re a good indicator of where you’re at and what you need to work on.”
A spokesperson from the Moline School District said the NCRC is recognized by companies across the country.
