The death of a five-year-old Iowa foster child has been ruled a homicide.

The Iowa State Medical Examiner ruled Dominic Elkins died of blunt force head injuries and drowning.

Dominic’s 17-year-old foster brother, Cody Metzker-Madsen, was charged with first-degree murder in connection with Dominic’s death.

Cody reportedly originally said Dominic had hit him, and that Dominic had run off.  Cody then led family members to a ravine where they found Dominic’s body Saturday, August 31, 2013 near their home in Logan, Iowa.

Cody was charged as an adult.  He was jailed in lieu of $500,000 bond.
