Iowa City residents voted to uphold an ordinance that bans anyone 21-and-under from entering a bar after 10 p.m.
Voters in Iowa City had the option to repeal the ordinance that was set to keep underage people out of bars after 10 p.m. Over 7,000 residents, 66-percent, voted to uphold that law.
Before the ordinance was established, 19 and 20-year-olds were allowed to be present in a bar after 10 p.m. but it was changed to 21-and-up only.
WHO reported that in the past, bar owners have petitioned the ordinance, asking for 19 and 20-year-olds to be allowed in after 10 p.m. as well.
Under-agers who are caught in a bar after 10 p.m. could face a fine of up to $300, according to WHO.
Out of Iowa City's 48,817 registered voters, 22-percent of them voted in Tuesday's election, according to the posted election results.
