Burlington Schools investigate alleged bullying video

Burlington Community School District officials say they, and police, are investigating a video that appears to depict bullying.

The video, circulating online, shows one person who appears to be the target of three others.  In about 3.5 minutes, the apparent confrontation escalates from taunting over a hat to shoving, tripping and punching.  The victim loses a shoe during the altercation and later appears to try to fight off three attackers.

In the audio portion of the clip it appears the person behind the camera laughs at several points during the attack.

Unconfirmed claims online indicate it all happened near the Burlington School District administrative building.

A post on the district’s Facebook page indicated the attack happened over the weekend of November 2-3, 2013.

Police later confirmed the alleged bullies were in juvenile custody by Tuesday, November 5.

The Facebook post said the district has identified the attackers, turned the video over to police and that they planned to request prosecution.  The post also suggested the culprits face possible disciplinary action from the school district.

“We (BCSD) do not condone fighting,” the post said.

If that was my kid. Them kids would have bigger problems than the school. Little basters

  • Hopefully charges are brought against these kids….if you start showing them that there are MAJOR consequences, make these felonies…maybe someday this behavior will stop. FELONIES for all bully’s…wheather it be kids, adults, teens, whoever, it doesn’t matter. It needs to stop!!!

Those kids should be kicked out of school, not suspended, they have all heard about “bullying” and were aware of their actions!

The white building clearly seen in the background is the admin building. Or it was… they’ve been working on moving it. That is the old Horace Mann grounds that it occurred on.

Who exactly does condone fighting besides MMA,boxing, karate, etc… That’s besides the point suspension?? how about expulsion!! Administration NEEDS to start to do something different,a slap on the wrist,a couple days off isn’t doing any good!! The price is to high these bullied kids freak out and kill themselves or their classmates(not in all cases)! Let’s make a change!!

How is this not a hate crime? If it were three white boys beating up on a black girl this would be national news as a hate crime. We would have Jesse Jackson in Burlington leading rallies and the three boys would be in prison for the rest of their lives.

good to see this being taken care of i saw this and said they should be arrested and they were thank god

  • i don’t have a problem with them getting into trouble with regards to it being a crime and prosecuted by the state, but, i have a big issue with the school getting involved in anything that happens off campus. this is not the business of the school district, period.

    If that “were” my son…

  • I noticed the video got cut short at the end there, looked like big dude was knocking em back when he decided to throw down, I’m sure if they whooped him there would be more footage-punks probably got there as* beat and didn’t want to show that..
