Four children were reportedly taken to an area hospital after the school bus they were on was involved in a crash.

The bus and a westbound truck reportedly collided at about 7 am. Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at the intersection of 13th Avenue North and North 3rd Street in Clinton.

Initial reports indicated the wreck pushed the bus over on its side.  Police said the bus was northbound on 3rd Street when it was hit on the passenger’s side by a westbound pickup truck.

A statement from Clinton Community School District Superintendent Deborah Olson said the bus overturned after it was hit broadside by another vehicle.

Police initially declined to disclose the ages of the four children who were taken to an area hospital.  Their injuries were all described as non-life-threatening.  Olson said the injured children were high school special education students.

The driver and four students were the only occupants on the bus.

Olson confirmed the bus driver refused medical treatment.

Police later said the driver of the pickup truck was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device.  The pickup driver also refused medical attention.

North 3rd Street and 13th Avenue North were both closed for about an hour.  The roads reopened just after 8 a.m.
