A Muscatine man convicted of assaulting a 79-year-old mall security guard was released after serving just over a year of his five-year prison sentence.

Scott Chancey, 50, attacked William Clark in August 2012 as Clark was issuing him a ticket for illegal parking at the Muscatine Mall.  Clark reportedly suffered a fractured him, a compound fracture of the arm and other injuries.

Chancey was initially charged with misdemeanor assault, but because of the severity of Clark’s injuries, the charge was enhanced to felony assault.  Chancey was convicted.  In March 2013, he was sentenced to a $750 fine and a prison sentence not to exceed five years.

Online records indicated the court reviewed his sentence and that Chancey was released November 4, 2013 from the Newton Correctional Facility to serve the remainder of his sentence on probation.

Court records indicate Chancey was not originally expected to be released from prison until July 2015.
