Retired ISU professor required to register as sex offender

A retired Iowa State University professor has pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography.

A retired Iowa State University professor has pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography.

According to U.S. States Attorney Nicholas Klinefeldt, a retired physics professor, 69-year-old Walter Meyer, was sentenced on Thursday, October 31, 2013. He pleaded guilty to the charge of possession of child pornography in July.

Officials say Meyer was sentenced to time served, twelve months of home confinement and five years of supervised release.

“The sentence of time served was imposed, in part, because the images and movies of prepubescent boys did not depict sexual assault,” said a spokesperson from the U.S. Attorney.

Due to the conviction, Meyer is required to register as a sex offender.
