Eastern Iowa Community Colleges are receiving a $2.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor.

College administrators held a press conference Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at the Blong Technology Center in Davenport. EICC is using the grant to upgrade their curriculum and start a new Engineering Technology program.

Clinton, Scott, and Muscatine Community Colleges are receiving the grant for their investment into the engineering workforce. Administrators designed the program for students interested in the manufacturing field.

The new technology program will be available during the spring semester. That starts January 21st of 2013.

Alcoa Public Affairs Manager John Riches was on hand Tuesday. He says Alcoa is looking for more "middle skilled technicians" in their workforce.
