Executive Director Scott Mullen said the i Wireless Center would get a $4 million check from the state of Illinois Thursday, October 24, 2013.

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn was at the i wireless Center to announce the investment. The building is now 20 years old.

Arena workers will spend $1.3 million on retractable seating for the lower bowl. That is the seating close to the stage or ice. The arena will spend another $1 million on expanding its concourse. Mullen says the expansion should ease some of the crowding near the food vendors. The arena will also spend another $65,000 on new hockey glass for the Quad City Mallards.

Mullen says the arena would like to spend another $11 million in the future on other improvement projects. There is no word on when the construction will start.

Governor Quinn was at the arena around 1:30 p.m. The i Wireless Center seats more than 10,000 people.
