Updated: Bogus home invasion reported in Rock Island

Investigators say a reported home invasion in which a man was hurt and a home burglarized was all fake.

Investigators say a reported home invasion in which a man was hurt and a home burglarized was all fake.

Police were sent to a home in the 4400 block of 12th Street in Rock Island, Illinois just before 8 a.m. Tuesday, October 22, 2013 to investigate an initial report of a person stabbed in the hand when someone broke into the home.

Police said four people were inside when an undetermined number of suspects broke into the home.  One of those people suffered minor injuries during the home invasion.

Initial reports indicated a safe was possibly stolen from the home.  Police later confirmed something was stolen but declined to identify what was possibly taken.

A man who said he was contracted to do remodeling work inside the home said a family member was staying there while the homeowner was out of town.

Hours after their investigation began, Rock Island Police said no home invasion actually happened.

Although police continued to interview the people inside the home to determine what exactly happened, investigators emphasized no home invasion occurred and there was no danger to the public as a result of what happened in the house.
