Galesburg Leaders Consider Changes to Animal Ordinance

The Galesburg City Council will consider changes to an animal ordinance Monday, October 21, 2013.

The Galesburg City Council will consider changes to an animal ordinance Monday, October 21, 2013.

City workers set up a task force to look at the changes in the summer, but it's the council who has the final say. The changes come after seven year-old Ryan Maxwell was killed by a pitbull back in March of 2013.

City leaders want a dog to only be tethered for six hours at the most. That is one of the things that the task force agreed with.

The task force also considered a limit on the number of cats or dogs a person can own. However, the city council will not recommend that Monday night. Council members do not want a limit on the number of animals that a person can own.

Monday's meeting starts at 6:15 p.m. at City Hall. The council is not likely to approve anything at the meeting.
