The trailer that is getting Niabi Zoo's elephants ready to leave is no longer there.

News 8 crews spotted that Monday, October 21, 2013. The trailer had been outside of the Niabi Zoo elephant exhibit for the past two and a half weeks. The trailer was being used to gear the elephants up for a move.

Zoo Director Marc Heinzman has not yet commented on the situation. Zoo administrators tell us he is not in at work Monday.

Back in July, the Rock Island County Forest Preserve voted to move both Babe and Sophie. Heinzman has not said when that would actually happen though. Babe and Sophie are the only two elephants in all of Illinois. The forest preserve decided to move them because of the cold temperatures and the small exhibit.

The zoo has considered replacing the elephants with rhinos. There is no word on when they will decide on new animals for the exhibit.
