A day of shopping is helping the homeless.

On Saturday, October 19th, 2013, Humility of Mary Housing, Inc. held its Semi-Annual Fresh Start Benefit Sale.

The event consists of items meant to furnish the organization’s 47 apartments, which are used to give homes to single-parent families in the community.

Any items that aren’t used are put for up sale, with the proceeds helping pay for bigger pieces of furniture for the apartments like beds and dressers.

Organizers say many of the items are donations.

“We’re very dependent upon the community to help us in meeting a gap that we always have between what we can get from grants and private donations and so in any way that the community can help us is really appreciated,” says Sister Mary Ann Vogel, Humility of Mary Housing, Inc.

If you would like to donate, you can do so at Humility of Mary’s Donation Center, located at 3805 Mississippi Avenue in Davenport. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm.
