The colder months of the year are here, but thanks to a local church those in need will have something to keep them warm this year.

On Saturday, October 19th, 2013, Central Church of Christ in Davenport held its 3rd Annual Coat Giveaway.

The congregation spent the whole year collecting coats through donations and yard sales.

Volunteers say the free coats help struggling families who are forced to make tough financial decisions in the winter.

"A mother told me that by getting three coats for her children it saved them $120 and that was their entire food budget for that week," says Jan Willis, Volunteer. "So if she didn't get free coats, they would have had no food budget. Some families just don't have any extra and getting a free coat really helps their family."

The church is holding a "Trunk or Treat" event on Wednesday, October 30th, 2013. Its coat room will also be open at that time for those in need.
