The Moline School District is conducting a survey to help determine a new purpose for Ericsson Elementary School.
Starting in the 2015-2016 school year, Ericsson will no longer be used as an attendance center, according to a spokesperson from the Moline School District. Moline schools and the City of Moline have contracted Northern Illinois University’s director of Office Research, Evaluation and Policy Studies to create a survey to direct efforts for what to do with the school.
The Moline School Board voted in May of 2013 to close Ericsson Elementary School and another elementary school in the district in an effort to save money. Superintendent, Dr. David Moyer, said closing the schools would save the Moline School District around $300,000 a year.
The director, Dr. Brent E. Wholeben, has been hired to develop and administer the survey and analyze the results.
For nearly three weeks, from Thursday, October 24, 2013 to Tuesday, November 12. The survey is designed for residents of the Floriciente or nearby neighborhoods who would most likely utilize the services available at the site.
The survey will be available in both Spanish and English. It can be taken online at www.molineschools.org or at various locations in the area. Hard copies will be available at Ericsson School, Lincoln-Irving School, the Moline COPS office, St. Mary’s Church, and the district office. Parents also have the opportunity to take the survey at Parent Teacher Conferences on October 24 and 25.
