Law enforcement has been seeing an increase in prescription drug abuse and in an effort to reduce the abuse, local police departments are taking unwanted prescriptions, no questions asked.
According to the Aledo Police Department, Saturday, October 26, 2013 in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, where people can stop by, drop off any unused prescriptions and leave. The drop-off will be held at the City Parking Lot east of the Aledo Police Department from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Police said there is no tracking and no questions asked.
“Just drop them off and drive away,” a spokesperson said.
Both plastic and glass bottles will be accepted, as well as syringes. Syringes with needles attached WILL NOT be accepted. Nothing with any needles will be collected.
Officials say this one-day effort will bring national focus to substance abuse. It is estimated that thousands of teens use prescription drugs daily to get a high.
All drugs collected on Saturday will be destroyed, according to Aledo Police.
