The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has returned to being fully operational after Congress resolved the issues surrounding the partial government shutdown.
On Thursday, October 17, 2013, the Rock Island District services that were reduced during the government shutdown are available again. This includes permit applications, pre-construction notifications, and requests for jurisdictional determinations. District-operated campgrounds, parks, visitor centers, and boat ramps reopened as well.
There are seven campgrounds that are still open through the end of the camping season, but 19 have closed for the winter.

During the federal shutdown, essential operations continued, such as locks and dams, water control features, and emergency response efforts.
The Rock Island District has about 815 employees. Roughly 170 were furloughed during the shutdown.
