‘Suspicious item’ investigated on ISU campus

A “suspicious item” which was later found to be non-explosive, caused campus police to evacuate parts of the campus.

According to the Iowa State University Police Department’s Facebook page, around 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 they were investigating a “suspicious item” on campus. Around 11:30 a.m., ISU Police said on Facebook that the item was determined to be non-explosive.

A series of updates on their Facebook page indicated that ISU Police had evacuated parts of campus. They were also asking students to avoid certain areas.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office was on site to assist ISU Police.

ISU Police said on Facebook that further investigation would continue off campus.
