Former U.S. Representative and Rock Island native, Lane Evans was honored in a very public way.

On Tuesday, October 15, 2013 Mayor Dennis Pauley unveiled a street sign on 37th Street, where a portion of the roadway is now called Lane Evans Drive.

The ceremony was held at Horace Mann Park near the intersection of 37th Street and 15th Ave. The roadway on 37th Street from 12th Ave. to 18th Ave. is the portion which was renamed. This particular area was renamed because this is the street Evans grew up on.

Along with Mayor Pauley was Rock Island County Democratic Chairman Doug House, as well as other area politicians and residents.

For health reasons, Evans was unfortunately unable to be at the unveiling.

Evans served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1983 to 2006.
