Residents have one less worry as the leaves begin to fall because some cities are offering free leaf pick-up.

For Bettendorf, Rock Island, and Moline, leaf collection begins Monday, October 14, 2013.

For Rock Island residents free leaf bags are available. It is not necessary to be a participant in the Yard Waste Collection Program nor do you have to have a yard waste sticker on the bag of leaves.

Residents may use their own approved paper yard bags. To have leaves collected place the bags at the normal refuse collection location on your regular collection day. Bags may only contain leaves.

In Bettendorf, stickers are not required on yard waste bags through November 30. Yard waste will be picked up on the regular trash collection day.

Residents in Moline can leave yard waste out on their regular garbage collection day, three feet from the garbage cart. Stickers are not required on bags through December 13.

Moline also offers a leaf vacuuming service. Residents should rake leaves close to the roadway surface (not on the roadway). Do not include rocks, sticks, or other debris in the leaf piles.

The vacuuming is intended to aid in leaf disposal, but it is recommended that residents bag their leaves as the primary means of removal.

In East Moline yard waste pick-up will be every Wednesday, from October 16 through December 4, excluding Thanksgiving week. Stickers are not required on paper bags during this time.

Free leaf bags are available for residents. It is asked that residents place their bags curbside before 7 a.m.
