An ex-farmer set new record at the annual Chicago Marathon.
On Sunday, October 13, 2013 Dennis Kimetto won the male division of the 36th Chicago Marathon with a time of 2:03:45, according to the Chicago Marathon leaderboard. The win came just years after the champion was growing corn and raising cattle in a Kenyan town, reported ABC.
According to a report by The Chicago Tribune, the previous Chicago Marathon record of 2:04:38 was set in 2012.
Winner of the female division was Rita Jeptoo from Kenya. She ran the 26.2 miles in 2:19:59 on Sunday. The female record stands at 2:17:18, set in 2002, according to the report.
Sunday was Kimetto’s second marathon victory, according to a report by ABC. The runner won at Tokyo in February early in the year.
