The city of Galesburg will hold a budget work session Friday, October 11, 2013.

The city is considering a cut of 12 full-time jobs for 2014. The city could make more than $2 million worth of cuts for next year. Cutting 12 positions would save the city about $1 million.

City leaders could cut four fire fighters and two police officers. They would also cut seven other staffers. The cuts are on page 44 of the city's budget document.

"I think we need all the police and fire department we have in order to keep it safe," Galesburg worker Pam Gaskill said. "There are a lot of problems in Galesburg, and I think that would just increase those problems."

Nothing will be approved at Friday's work session. It starts at 8:30 a.m. at Galesburg City Hall. It could last most of the day. The city won't decide on the budget cuts until November 18th.
