Senior, Haley Zapolski took up rowing two years ago and has made waves in the sport. She says the work is hard but it’s worth it.

“There is just nothing like going out in a single on a beautiful morning with either the sun rise or the sun shining,” said Zapolski. “Just all out there by yourself in the boat it’s just like a serene experience.”

Zapolski trains on the water twice per day in the summer. She said morning rows will last anywhere from 90 minutes to 2 hours and the second row of the day is about an hour.

Zapolski said she would recommend rowing to others, but only if they believe they are willing to work hard and put in the effort.

“In this sport there is a direct correlation between the work you put in and what you get out of it,” she said. “If you work hard you will do great things with rowing.”
