Davenport residents head to the polls Tuesday, October 8th, 2013 to vote in the city council primary.
There are many places around the city where residents can vote. One of them is the Scott County Administration Center. By 10:45 a.m., just five people had voted at that precinct. Scott County Auditor Roxanna Moritz believes that just 5% of Davenport voters will vote on Tuesday.
There are two contested races though. One is the third ward race, and the other is the alderman at-large race.
In the alderman at-large race, alderman Jason Gordon and alderman Gene Meeker are running for re-election. They have three challengers Tuesday. They are local pastor Cheryl Draeger, resident Dale Gilmour, and resident Kevin Perkins. Gilmour has attended many city council meetings. Perkins is a former member of the Democratic National Convention Rules Committee.
In the third ward alderman race, incumbent Bill Boom faces two challengers. They are Andrew King and Carlton Wills.
Four people will move on in the alderman at-large race while two move forward in the third ward race. Two candidates will be selected as the alderman at large on November 5th. The third ward race will also be decided that day. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
