An immediate feeling of nostalgia comes to me when I’m scrolling through the TV guide channel and I see that Hocus Pocus is on. I loved that movie as a kid and while I don’t get frightened anymore by the whimsical witches and their black magic I at least for a moment return to that place of being excited for Halloween and the trick-or-treating that comes along with it.
Halloween movies aren’t the only ones showing up on the TV listings. Christmas Vacation is already running on cable. Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas are almost becoming seasons themselves instead of holidays. What happened to Thanksgiving? Do kids even have their Halloween costumes yet? While I do think it’s a little early in the season to play Christmas movies I can’t help but find myself stopping to watch those Christmas classics. I think a lot of people are guilty of doing the same thing or else why would they continue to run them so early?
