The National Weather Service (NWS) meteorologists will still be working during the government shutdown and Friday's severe weather to our west.

The National Weather Service is a part of the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration or the (NOAA). Their website is currently shut down.

"Due to the Federal Government shutdown, NOAA.gov and most associated web sites
are unavailable,"
the website said Friday.

The NWS website is still working, but it too, has a notice up on its website. Their office in Davenport is also closed to the public.

"...because the information this site provides is necessary to protect life and property, it will be updated and maintained during the Federal Government shutdown," the website said Friday.

NWS Meteorologist Steve Kuhl says there have been no furloughs to his department. That's because their jobs are deemed essential.
