Gold's Gym announced they are closing their gym for good at the end of October.

The gym located at 4885 Utica Ridge Road in Davenport is gifting their equipment to The Scott County Family Y.

In the last year, there have been several private gyms to close in the Quad City area.

Unlike other private gyms who have closed, some of the staff from Gold's Gym will transition over to The Scott County Family Y.

The YMCA released a statement Wednesday, October 2, 2013 in regards to the expansion.

"This development will help to further the Y mission by helping more people to live healthier lives".

However, Kora Martin, owner of Quad City Ultimate Fitness in Rock Island and Bettendorf  says the YMCA expanding is frustrating and isn't fair to the private gym sector.

"They build, big huge health clubs in Suburbia, basically put health clubs out of business, Gold's Gym might be one of them, who couldn't compete with the entity like the YMCA."

There are currently six Ys in the Quad City area, with an estimated 30,000 customer.

Kora says the Ys dominate the fitness industry in the area and make it difficult for private gyms to stay in the black, which is why recently some of the clubs have closed.

The last day of operation for Gold's Gym will be October 31, 2013. The facility will close it's doors with the YMCA staff at the location from November 1-7.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony and public event to honor Gold's Gym owners will take place shortly after the new opening.
