Nearly twelve hours after his body was found in the Mississippi River, family and friends of David Harker gathered for a candlelight vigil.

Missing since early Sunday, September 29, 2013, crews pulled his body from the water in Buffalo, October 2, 2013.

Candles lit Lincoln Park at a vigil held Wednesday night, October 2, 2013.  Hundreds gathered to remember David Harker.

“He was an awesome little brother. He was great,” said Harker’s older sister, Chris Kratzberg.

Family and friends learned the sad news over Facebook from Harker’s father.

“This morning was extremely hard for us,” says Kratzberg.

Family members say David had a great sense of humor.

“He’s a teaser that likes to give everybody a hard time and he’s so quick with a smile, he’s fun to be around,” said Kratzberg.

He was also a family man, a dad of two.

“He’s always been there and he’s always been very loving,” said Kratzberg.

Through it all his family says its been the love of the community that has helped them get through this difficult time.

“It really helps all of us in the family to know that people really do care,” said Kratzberg.

His family knows they face a long battle, but they’re not alone.

“Eventually we’ll all get there. It’s just gonna be a hard road and we’re always going to miss him,” Kratzberg said.

The cause of Harker’s death was still unknown.  There is a fund set up for people to donate money to Harker’s family. People can donate money at any DHCU Community Credit Union locations.

I didnt know you at all , just a face on the wall as i stopped at the store the other day.
It said you were missing i could’nt help thinking why on earth would someone take you away.
The people in town come looking around but you they did not find. What god did next was put us all to a test on how quickly life can be left behind.
Without a trace and not even a clue thousands of people were looking for you. Some family some friends and most strangers were deffinately not giving up on you.
The mystery is over , now we can sleep knowing your resting at the mercy of gods feet!
He will take care of you that i do know . Your at peace now dear david but we will never let go. You touched our lives in this town you call home and rest asure your family here will never be alone.
