The old K’s Merchandise building in Davenport has been vacant for seven years, but a plan to revive the building in Davenport isn’t sitting well with neighbors.

At a Davenport Committee of the Whole meeting Wednesday night, the chamber was at standing room only, packed with concerned neighbors.

The building is on the corner of Marquette and Kimberly in Davenport. Murray Kimberly Road, LLC, is petitioning to rezone the area to change it from a Planned Shopping District to a Planned Development District, which would allow for warehousing and distribution use.

185 people signed a petition against the rezoning, citing safety concerns and loud truck noises.

Several people, including neighbors, spoke in favor of the rezoning.

The Davenport Community Development Committee voted to move the petition forward. The petition will likely be heard at the Davenport City Council meeting on October 9, 2013 at 5:30 p.m at City Hall.
