The body of a man missing since early Sunday, September 29 was found in the Mississippi River near the Buffalo Shores Recreation Area.

Recovery crews were sent to the boat ramp at Buffalo Shores just before 9 a.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2013.

A command post was being established after the body was reported in the water north of the 100 block of Front Street in Buffalo, Iowa.

Initial reports indicated Moline detectives were summoned to the command post.  Family and friends searching for David Harker, who has been missing since early Sunday morning, were aware of the discovery.

Just before 10:30 a.m., a post on the Facebook page dedicated to the search for Harker stated the body found near Buffalo Shores is David Harker.

"It's with a heavy heart I'm sorry to inform you all that the body found in the river is David Harker. We ask that you respect the privacy of the family at this time. Your continued prayers are appreciated. We love you Dave. Rest in peace," the post said.

Emergency responders initially declined to confirm the identity of the body.  Moline Police issued a statement at about 12:30 p.m. confirming the body was that of David Harker.

A vigil planned for 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 1 was still set to go on as previously announced.

A statement on the Facebook page dedicated to the search for David Harker said his death was believed to be accidental.
