The Student Hunger Drive kicks off Monday, September 30th, 2013 in the Quad Cities.

The Student Hunger Drive donations will go to the River Bend Food Bank in Moline. The kick off event Monday evening begins the six-week drive.  18 high schools try to see who can raise the most amount of "pounds per student."

Schools take part in a skit Monday evening. The winner of the skit gets a 2,000 lbs. donation from Hy-Vee. The winner gets a big head start on the rest of the competition.

"I just think it's so important for kids," Pleasant Valley senior Natalie Lang said. "As youth, it's going to shape us for the rest of our lives, and when we start serving at a young age, we will continue to serve forever."

The food drive runs through November 7th, and the kick off event is Monday evening. That event starts at 6 at the River Bend Food Bank. Last year, more than 750,000 pounds of food was collected.
