UPDATE: Possible Gas Explosion Reported in Coal Valley

Reports were called in regarding a possible gas explosion in Coal Valley.

UPDATE as of 7:24pm on Saturday, September 28th, 2013 -- The Media Relations Representative from MidAmerican Energy tells News 8 that the sound reported on Friday, September 27th, 2013 was not a gas explosion. Officials say there is only one line in that area and after checking it out, they determined whatever sound was made was not natural gas related.

EARLIER STORY -- Reports were called in regarding a possible gas explosion in Coal Valley.

According to Coal Valley’s Chief of Police, Mark Poulos, around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2013, officials received reports of a possible gas explosion off Niabi Zoo Road south of Route 6.

Officials said contractors have been installing a new gas line owned by MidAmerican Energy.

"Things like this happen from time to time when you have new developments," Poulos said. "But generally its a pretty safe operation."

There was no reported damage to property and no injuries. Poulos said there have been no mandatory evacuations installed, but residents in the area have been advised to leave for the time being.
