The city of Dixon will receive a $40 million settlement in the case involving former comptroller Rita Crundwell.

Here's a quick timeline of the events that have happened over the past year and a half.

April 18, 2012: Crundwell is arrested by the FBI for stealing more than $30 million from the city.

May 1, 2012: An indictment shows that Crundwell stole more than $53 million from the city and not $30 million.

June 8, 2012: The city of Dixon sues firms CliftonLarsonAllen, Fifth Third Bank, and Sam Card Accounting for "professional negligence."

November 14, 2012: Crundwell pleads guilty to stealing more than $53 million in Rockford, Illinois.

February 14, 2013: Crundwell sentenced to more than 19 years in federal prison.

September, 25, 2013: City of Dixon receives $40 million settlement regarding three accounting firms it sued back on June 8, 2012.
