Enjoying the beautiful weather, a man became involved in a rescue attempt he was not expecting.
On Monday, September 23, 2013 two people noticed a boat on the Mississippi River in Rock Island looked like it was tipping and saw a man hanging on to the side.
Unsure if everything was alright, Terry Thurman directed his attention at the situation on the water and heard a man yelling for help. As he attempted to swim out to the man, the other person called 911.
“I kept trying to get out there but I could feel myself getting pulled by the same undertow,” said Thurman. “The current started pulling me under so I had to come back.”
Strong currents had reportedly turned the man’s boat causing him to fall out.
He was reportedly rescued from the water; there is no word on his condition.
