A fundraising event was held in Coal Valley to help kids who have been diagnosed with epilepsy.

On Saturday, September 21, 2013, at Creekside Vineyard the organization Ribbons for Kellsey held an event benefiting children living with epilepsy.

The organization’s namesake, Kellsey, is an 8-year-old student at Sherrard Grade School. She was diagnosed with the disease when she was a toddler.

“I sat around and I was pitiful for probably the first few years after we found out,” said Kellsey’s mother, Brandi McGuire. “I decided that I needed to be powerful and that’s when I started Ribbons for Kellsey.”

Ribbons for Kellsey bottles of wine were available for purchase at the event. Participants enjoyed an afternoon of family fun, complete with games for the children, music, and wine.

Proceeds from the day went toward the purchase of seizure pillows for children and to fund a seizure alert dog.
