A new gym is opening at the site of the former Fitness First which abruptly shut its doors last month off Avenue of the Cities in East Moline.
Called Hilltop Fitness, new General Manager Bob Horn says he hopes to be ready for business by the end of the week.
Fitness First shut its doors the second week of August, allegedly owing about $98,000 in back rent. Many members who pre-paid lost money in the deal.
A call to former Fitness FIrst owner Debbie Diaz of Chicago has not been returned.
The new owners of Hilltop say the old memberships will not transfer, but they hope to work something out with customers of Fitness First.
States Attorney John McGehee on Monday said his office has not received any formal complaints about Fitness FIrst to recoup lost money.
